According to anonymous reports, Google will be releasing a new version of its popular Google Home Mini, re-branded as the Google Nest Mini. Rumors suggest that the new device will feature better audio and a built-in wall mount.

The original Google Home Mini was released in Fall of 2017. While it ultimately became a popular device, many bemoaned the sound quality of its speaker. Hopefully, Google will enhance the sound of the Mini, while adding some additional new features.

Google Nest Mini New Features (Rumored)

Here are some of the rumored new features of the Nest Mini:

  • Upgraded Sound: The Nest Mini reportedly will have a higher maximum volume with better bass. This would be a welcomed upgrade over the current Mini’s tiny sounding speaker.
  • Headphone Jack: This would be a great addition to the new Mini, allowing users to connect headphones or external speakers. Perhaps Google or a third-party vendor could release a speaker accessory with its own battery. That would be hot!
  • Built-in Wall Mount: This would be a nice addition, although, many third-party mounts already exist.
  • Proximity Awareness: The new Mini may have some sort of proximity detection. It’s not yet clear how this functionality would work. Perhaps it will be able to detect hand gestures?
  • New Colors: It would be nice if the new Mini came in more colors. Perhaps a better option would be to allow users to customize the look of the Mini via replaceable covers or skins.

Google Nest Mini Price and Release Date

The existence of the Nest Mini has yet to be confirmed by Google. However, if the rumors are true, we can guess that the new device would be released in Fall 2019, ahead of the holiday season.

Google would be wise to keep the price of the Nest Mini at $50. This matches the regular price of the often discounted Amazon Echo Dot. Perhaps Google would consider releasing a Google Nest Mini Max that offers even better audio and a slightly higher price. A Mini Max would be awesome! 🙂
